Unlocking the car with no Internet connection

What is offline mode?

Generally Getaround Connect uses 3G, or mobile internet connection via a sim card to lock and unlock cars, however when cars are parked underground, it is not always possible to rely on this connection. Therefore some cars are ‘offline mode’ enabled, this generates a Bluetooth key in your smartphone to lock and unlock the Getaround Connect device when you don’t have any internet connection.

How do I use offline mode?

If your car is parked in an underground carpark, don’t worry, you can still use the app to access the car. There are a couple of things you should do before entering the car park to make sure you can still complete your checkin and checkout smoothly, and be able to access the car.

1. Make sure you have bluetooth turned on on your mobile device

2. Open the Getaround app before you enter the car park

3. Follow the steps indicated in the app to complete the checkin process and unlock the car as normal

4. Once you have accessed the car, remember to keep the Getaround app running in the background on your phone, this ensures that the rental agreement uploads as soon as you’re back in an area with mobile phone network coverage.
