Article updated on 01/02/2024

All countries except UK: To add or update your billing information and IBAN, go to Your account > Payment settings.

In the UK: To add or update your billing information, sort code and account number, go to Your account > Payment settings. You’ll need to verify your identity before proceeding.

All countries: You will not be able to easily edit your billing information once it is confirmed. If you need to make changes, we will have to check your information again which will delay your future payments.

Why does Getaround need my billing information?

Every country has its own laws when it comes to paying out funds to individuals and companies. These are typically known as “Know Your Customer” (KYC) regulations.

KYC regulations require Getaround to collect and maintain information on all owners who rented on Getaround. These requirements are intended to prevent abuse of the financial system.

For this reason, Getaround and its payment partner will need to:

  • Collect information about the individual or company receiving funds
  • Verify the information is accurate

To fulfill those requirements, you only have to complete the required information on our platform in Your account > Payment settings. We will then provide them to our payment provider Stripe who will verify them.

This may include personal information and a scan of a proof of identity. We may also reach out periodically to confirm that information on your account is still accurate.

In which countries can I receive my payments?

Getaround uses a payment provider, Stripe, to execute the bank transfers.

For FR, BE, DE, AT & ES : Stripe is supported in the following countries:

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France (including DOM-TOM), Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lichenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom.

If your bank account isn't located in one of the countries listed above, we recommend opening one, otherwise you will not be able to rent your car on Getaround.

For UK: Please note that rentals made with a UK vehicle can only be paid on a bank account located in UK (using the sort code and account number). If your bank account isn't located in the UK we recommend opening one, otherwise you will not be able to rent your car on Getaround.

Can the renter pay me directly in cash?

No. You should never accept rentals that are not paid for on the website. Cash payments are not permitted to pay for a rental.

If the renter does not pay online, then your vehicle will not be covered by Getaround in the event of an accident or a theft.

Online payment is a measure designed to protect you. Do not take unnecessary risks by accepting payment by any other means than the website. If a renter cannot pay online, then they can't rent your car.

If a renter does not own a credit card, or if their credit card is declined by our payment provider, they cannot rent your vehicle. Sometimes, credit cards are declined even if the cardholder has enough money on their account, due to maximum payment limits or anti-fraud filters.

Cash payments are allowed for adjustments after the rental, if the contract mentions that you can settle with the driver directly.
