The driver must immediately warn you if he is returning the car later than expected.
If the delay implies a restitution of the car later than the end of the insurance coverage period (noon for a rental supposed to end in the morning; midnight for a rental supposed to end in the afternoon) The driver must imperatively extend the rental through Getaround to extend the insurance coverage. If the extension is not possible (not possible for you or the payment is refused), the driver must return the car at the original time. If he doesn't, contact us before the end of the rental so we can do the necessary.
if the delay is in the insurance coverage period (noon for a rental supposed to end in the morning; midnight for a rental supposed to end in the afternoon)
For long-distance rentals, it can be difficult to estimate the return time (traffic jam, etc.): be lenient with drivers if they notify your of their delay! If you need the driver to be especially punctual when returning your vehicle, warn them in advance in order to avoid unnecessary tension.
In case of late returnal where you didn't accept the extension, you can ask for a compensation.
Late fees details: 10€ per started hour of lateness (10£ in the UK). This fee is waived and cannot be claimed if the driver is less than 30 minutes late.
This fee will be charged up to 240 EUR. We remind you that after 24 hours, you must report the vehicle as stolen to the police and inform Getaround.
To ask for a compensation, go to Your Rentals > Ended rentals > Selected rental > Compensation for delay or dirt. You will have to upload the paper agreement (only if you didn't use the mobile agreement) and precise the late delay of returnal of your car.
You have until 48h after the end of the rental to ask for a compensation.
In any case, the driver will be responsible to pay any possible extra hours or days of rental at the extension price, as well as the possible adjustments.
