Ensuring I'm eligible to rent

To rent a car on Getaround, you need to meet certain conditions so that your trips will be covered by insurance.

You must:

• Have a valid driving licence for the country in which you’re renting, including the original document (copies, declarations of loss, or provisional licences are not accepted). If you have a foreign licence, there may be additional requirements. More information here.

• Meet the minimum age and years of licence conditions for the car you’re renting (see below).

• Can pay for the rental with a credit card in your name. In Germany and Austria, you can also pay with your PayPal account. More information on accepted payment methods here.

• Be present for the check-in and the check-out.

• Not use the car for commercial purposes, like taxi driving. You can, however, use the vehicle to carpool.

• Verify your profile, if necessary. (If you rent a Getaround Connect car in any country, you’ll need to verify your profile and have your documents checked by Getaround before the rental starts.)

To rent a car in the UK, you also need to:

• Have no more than 6 points on your licence (UK licence holders), no major driving convictions in the last 5 years, strictly less than 2 minor convictions, and no driving bans or disqualifications.

• In the UK, all profiles must be verified by Getaround before the first rental. In France, we’ll need to verify your profile if you rent a privilege car. In Belgium, Spain, Germany and Austria, we’ll need to verify your profile if you rent a privilege car.

Rental conditions by car category (eco, comfort, premium/privilege)

Vehicles are divided into three categories (eco, comfort and premium/privilege) depending on model and age. Most vehicles belong to the eco category, whilst the comfort and premium/privilege categories are reserved for high-end vehicles. Different levels of access and deductibles apply depending on categories, which will be detailed under the description of the vehicle during your booking.

Cars in France

• Eco: you must have more than 2 years of driving history
• Comfort: you must have more than 5 years of driving history
• Privilege: you must have more than 7 years of driving history

Cars in the UK

• Economy category: the driver must be at least 21 years old and have held a licence for at least two years
• Comfort category: the driver must be at least 25 years old and have held a licence for at least two years
• Premium category: the driver must be at least 25 years old and have held a licence for at least three years
• Drivers must be no more than 75 years old to rent any category of vehicle on Getaround.

Cars in Spain, Germany, Austria, and Belgium

• Eco: you must be over 21 and have more than 2 years of driving history
• Comfort: you must be over 25 and have more than 2 years of driving history
• Privilege: you must be over 28 have more than 3 years of driving history

Cars in Norway

• Eco: you must over 20
• Comfort: you must be over 20 and have more than 2 years of driving history
• Privilege: you must over 30 and have more than 2 years of driving history

Rentals in France: Due to insurance requirements, all drivers 25 years and under are required to pay a young driver's surcharge. It is 25€ for drivers aged 18 to 23, and 15€ for drivers aged 24 and 25.

Rentals in Belgium: Due to insurance requirements, all drivers 25 years and under are required to pay a young driver's surcharge of 13€ per trip.

Rentals in Germany: Due to insurance requirements, all drivers 25 years and under are required to pay a young driver's surcharge of 6€ per trip. In Austria, there is no young driver's surcharge.

Rentals in Norway: Due to insurance requirements, all drivers 26 years and under are required to pay a young driver's surcharge of 200 kr per trip.

Rentals in the UK: Due to insurance requirements, all drivers 26 years and under are required to pay a young driver's surcharge of £39 per trip.

Documents to show at check-in

Getaround Connect rentals Make sure your driving license was validated by Getaround before the beginning of the rental.

Non-Getaround Connect rentals In order to comply with Getaround's insurance conditions, for a classical rental, you need to present to the owner at check-in:

• Your original driving license (no copy or theft / loss statement)

• The credit card under your first name and last name used for the payment of the rental

• Secondary drivers will also have to present their driving license to the owner to be added to the rental agreement and benefit from the insurance coverage.

Can I use a declaration of loss / theft or copy of driving license to rent?

Without your original driving license document, you cannot rent. Declarations of loss, preliminary licenses or copies of the driving license are hence not allowed. You have to cancel the rental and warn the owner as soon as possible.
