Article updated on 02/15/2024
  • The accident involves an identified third-party (ie: the person you had an accident with is still there) :

    • You must fill out an accident report, which will determine the responsibilities of each driver involved in the accident. You will find the accident report in the car's glovebox:
    • In the "Insured" box, write down the name of the driver at the time of the accident
    • In the section 8 of the accident report, write down Getaround's insurance policy number (and not the owner's). This number can be found below for each country.
    • Fill out the rest of the form with the detail of the incident
    • Sign the accident report and keep a copy
  • Take photos of the damages, on your car and the third-party one.

    • Call the owner to inform him. You will fill Getaround's accident statement together at the end of the rental.
    • If the car can't be driven anymore, contact Getaround's roadside assistance (see the instructions on the Assistance page. It will organize towing service for the car and transport for its passengers.
  • The accident doesn't involve an identified third-party (ie: you damaged the car yourself or it was damaged but you can't identify who is responsible for that) :

    • Take photos of the damages.
    • Call the owner to inform him. You will fill Getaround's accident statement together at the end of the rental.
    • If the car can't be driven anymore, contact Getaround's roadside assistance (see the instructions on the Assistance page. It will organize towing service for the car and transport for its passengers.

In all cases

The owner will then fill the damage report on Getaround's website. We might get back to you for a circumstancial statement of the accident if needed.

  • If you're not responsible for the accident, you won't have to pay anything.
  • If you are responsible or the responsible third party can not be identified, your deductible will be involved, and management fees may be applied.
